2-Heptanol description

2-heptanol is an organic compound with the structural formula CH3CH(OH)CH2(CH2)3CH3. The appearance of this product is a colorless liquid, the relative density is 0.8187 (20/20°C), the boiling point is 160.4°C, and the refractive index is 1.4210. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol. It has flammable properties. For organic synthesis, as a solvent for synthetic resins and for making plastics, lubricants, drugs, etc.

2-Heptanol chemical properties

Appearance is colorless liquid. Fresh lemony and herbaceous-herbal, slightly ethereal and oily. The boiling point is 157-161°C. Soluble in ethanol and ether, slightly soluble in water.

Natural products are found in apples, strawberries, clove stems, ginger, black tea, soybeans, etc.

2-Heptanol function & application

It is added to nitro paint solvent as cosolvent, used as intermediate of plasticizer, wetting agent, medicine, perfume, etc., and analytical chemical reagent.

2-Heptanol preparation

1. Prepared by reacting amyl nickel bromide with acetaldehyde.

2. Methyl-amyl ketone reacts with sodium metal in ethanol solution.
