Folate vitamin b9 description

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin, named after its rich content in green leaves, also known as pteroylglutamic acid. There are several forms of existence in nature, and their parent compounds are formed by combining three components: pteridine, p-aminobenzoic acid, and glutamic acid.

Folic acid contains one or more glutamyl groups, and most naturally occurring folic acid is in the form of polyglutamic acid. The biologically active form of folic acid is tetrahydrofolic acid. Folic acid is a yellow crystal that is slightly soluble in water, but its sodium salt is extremely soluble in water. Insoluble in ethanol. It is easily damaged in acidic solutions, unstable to heat, and easily lost at room temperature. It is extremely vulnerable to damage when exposed to light.

There are two modes of active absorption and diffusion passive absorption of folic acid in the body, with the absorption site mainly located in the upper part of the small intestine. The absorption rate of reduced folic acid is higher, and the more glutamic acid, the lower the absorption rate. Glucose and vitamin C can promote absorption. After absorption, folic acid is stored in tissues such as intestinal wall, liver, and bone marrow in the body. With the participation of NADPH, it is reduced by folic acid reductase to tetrahydrofolate (THFA or FH4) with physiological activity, which is involved in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines. Therefore, folic acid plays an important role in protein synthesis and cell division and growth, promoting the formation of normal red blood cells. Deficiency can lead to reduced hemoglobin production in red blood cells and delayed cell maturation, leading to megaloblastic anemia.

Folic acid vitamin b9 production method

An orange folic acid precipitate was obtained by cyclization of p-aminobenzoylglutamic acid, 2,4,5-triamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine, and trichloroacetone in the presence of sodium pyrosulfite and sodium acetate, with a Ph value of 3.4 to 3.6, and at a temperature of 36 to 40 ℃ for 6 hours. α, β-Dibromopropionaldehyde can also be used instead of trichloroacetone, and the product can be obtained by condensation under similar conditions.

Vitamin b9 function and application

1. Folic acid can effectively prevent fetal neural tube malformation.

2. Folic acid can improve memory, and middle-aged and elderly people can prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

3. Folic acid can prevent megaloblastic anemia caused by folic acid deficiency to some extent.

4. Folic acid can reduce the incidence rate of pregnancy induced hypertension.
