Corn Steep Liquor Powder description

Corn steep liquor is a by-product of corn starch. The raw materials are corn grits, water and corn juice. To make corn starch, corn kernels must be soaked in sulphurous acid first, and the soaking solution is concentrated to make a yellowish brown liquid, called corn syrup, which is rich in soluble protein, auxin and some precursor substances, containing about 40% - 50% solid substances. It tastes slightly salty. It is an organic nitrogen source widely used for microbial growth. It can also promote the biosynthesis of penicillin and other antibiotics.

Corn steep liquor powder function and application

Corn steep liquor is a substitute for peptone in various microbial production methods, including fed batch production of recombinant protein of Escherichia coli, high-density culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and low-cost substitute for lactic acid fermentation. Corn steep liquor can also be used as a nitrogen source under several medium and cell culture conditions. This can produce biomass, which is rich in protein and less acidic polysaccharides.
