Garlic oil description

Garlic oil is a light yellow liquid with strong garlic odor, insoluble in water and partially soluble in ethanol. Garlic oil is obtained by steam distillation from the bulb of Allium sativum L. Garlic oil is a broad-spectrum antibacterial substance, which has many pharmacological functions, such as activating cells, promoting energy production, increasing antibacterial and antiviral capabilities, accelerating metabolism, and alleviating fatigue. Therefore, it is widely used in many fields.

Garlic oil physical and chemical properties

Garlic oil is yellow to orange clear and transparent volatile essential oil, which has a strong pungent smell and the unique spicy taste of garlic. It has strong bactericidal ability (about 15 times that of phenol). Soluble in most non-volatile oils and mineral oils, incompletely soluble in ethanol, insoluble in glycerol and propylene glycol.

Garlic oil main components

More than 100 sulfur-containing compounds such as allyl propyl disulfide (about 60%), diallyl disulfide (23%~39%), diallyl trisulfide (13%~19%), allyl methyl disulfide, allicin, etc. The total sulfur content is 35%~45%.

Garlic oil function and efficacy
