L(-)-Carvone description

L-carvone, alias L - (-) - carvone, spearmint oil, 2,3-dimethyl-5-isopropyl-cyclohexanone-1, light yellow clear liquid, insoluble in water. The flavor additive used for food, such as chewing gum, is the main raw material for the blending flavor of gum, and also used for the blending flavor of medicine and toothpaste.

L(-)-Carvone function and application

It is used in food such as chewing gum (peppermint oil, L-carvone, peppermint l-menthol), and it is the main raw material of gum and spices; It is also used in medicine, making mud dressing, oral cooling agent, flavoring and toothpaste.

L(-)-Carvone production method

It is isolated from spearmint oil by neutral sulfite method or hydrogen sulfide derivative method.

It is synthesized from d-tarlene.

L(-)-Carvone chemical property

Colorless to light straw yellow oil with spearmint aroma. The boiling point is 231 ℃ and the flash point is 93.5 ℃. Soluble in propylene glycol, vegetable oil and mineral oil, miscible in ethanol, insoluble in glycerol and water.

Natural products are the main components of spearmint oil (up to 70%).
