Medicinal Calcium Chloride Preparation

1. Calcium chloride dihydrate (dehydration method) method:

The edible calcium chloride dihydrate is dried and dehydrated at 200-300 DEG C to obtain the finished product of the edible anhydrous calcium chloride.

Its chemical reaction equation:

For the neutral calcium chloride solution, a spray drying tower can be used to carry out spray drying and dehydration under a hot air flow of 300 °C to obtain anhydrous calcium chloride powder products.

2. Spray drying and dehydration method: The purified neutral calcium chloride solution from which arsenic and heavy metals have been removed is sprayed into a mist form from the top of the spray drying tower through a nozzle, and it is in countercurrent contact with a 300 ℃ hot air flow to achieve drying and dehydration, and obtain a powder without Calcium chloride in water is used to obtain the finished product of edible anhydrous calcium chloride.

3. Mother liquor method:

The mother liquor when soda ash is produced by the ammonia-alkali method is added with lime milk to obtain an aqueous solution, which is evaporated, concentrated, cooled and solidified.

4. Double decomposition method:

It is derived from the action of calcium carbonate (limestone) and hydrochloric acid.

Chemical reaction equation: CaCO3+2HCl=CaCl2+H2O+CO2↑.

After the above steps are completed, heat it to 260 degrees Celsius for evaporation and dehydration.

5. Refining method:

By-products in the production of sodium hypochlorite are refined.

Refined as a by-product of the Solvay process for the production of sodium carbonate.

Ca(OH)2 + 2NH4Cl → CaCl2 + 2NH3 + 2H2O

Medicinal Calcium Chloride Main Application

1. Industrial use

Used as a multi-purpose desiccant, such as for drying nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide and other gases. Used as a dehydrating agent in the production of alcohols, esters, ethers and acrylic resins. Calcium chloride aqueous solution is an important refrigerant for refrigerators and ice making, which can accelerate the hardening of concrete and increase the cold resistance of building mortar, and it is an excellent building antifreeze. It is used as antifogging agent in port, road dust collector and fabric fire retardant. Used as protective agent and refining agent in aluminum-magnesium metallurgy. It is a precipitant for the production of lake pigments. Used for deinking of waste paper processing. It is the raw material for the production of calcium salts.

2. Medical Use

This product can be used for intestinal colic, pruritic skin disease, magnesium salt poisoning, vitamin D deficiency rickets, osteomalacia, calcium supplementation for pregnant and lactating women, etc.

3. Food

As a food ingredient, calcium chloride acts as a sequestering and curing agent, and it has been approved by the European Union as a food additive with E code E509. It is considered by the US Food and Drug Administration as "generally recognized as safe" (Generally recognized as safe, abbreviated as GRAS). It is estimated that the daily intake of calcium chloride food additives per person ranges from 160 to 345 mg.

Calcium chloride is used as a curing agent for canned vegetables. It can also solidify soybean curd to form tofu, and it can be used as a raw material for culinary molecular cuisine by reacting with sodium alginate to gel the surface of vegetable and fruit juices to form caviar-like pellets. Added to sports drinks or some soft drinks including bottled water as electrolytes. Because calcium chloride itself has a very strong salty taste, it can be used instead of salt to make pickled cucumbers without increasing the sodium content of the food. The freezing point-lowering properties of calcium chloride are used in caramel-filled chocolate bars to delay the freezing of caramel.

Calcium chloride is added to mineral-deficient beer brewing liquor because calcium ions are one of the most influential minerals in the beer brewing process, affecting the acidity of the wort and the ability of the yeast to function. Calcium chloride can also bring sweetness to the brewed beer.
