Valerian root oil is obtained from the roots and rhizomes of Valeriana officinalis, a patriniaceae plant, by steam distillation. It has a sedative effect on the nervous system.
1. Chinese GB 2760-96 stipulates that it is allowed to use edible spices. Valerian root oil is mainly used to prepare essence such as beer (used with hops), cider, etc.
2. Valerian root oil is used to prepare essence for tobacco, food and wine. Sometimes a small amount is also used in cosmetics essence.
Green to brown liquid with woody, ointment and musk-like special aroma. The relative density (d15) is 0.953-0.990, the refractive index (nD20) is 1.4861-1.5021, the acid value is about 5.0, and the ester value is about 130. 1ml sample can be dissolved in 0.5 ~ 1.5ml, 90% ethanol. Both carminative, exciting, antispasmodic effect.
